Freestylers Gallery

So you've never heard of the Freestlyers? Shame on you. I've been buying their stuff since the mid 90s in pretty much whatever format I can find it on. Remix's, albums, 12"s I'm not fussed. I've never bought something and been disappointed with what I've heard when I've got it home. One of the few bands/producers I can say that about and I'll happily buy their stuff without even listening to it. That is very rare indeed. I am a big fan, what can I say?

In fact I've done a mix "Freestylin' Breaks" [available for download] as my little tribute to them. The vast majority of the mix is stuff produced by them or can be found on compilations put together by them. It's almost a thank you for getting me into the breaks and offering a differing mixing experience from the drum n bass (and hardcore) of the time. They were like my sanity check and inspiration outlet when I felt that creative gland about to burst that both dnb or hardcore had failed to allow. They got the funk, the scratching, the beats, the lyrics and the diversity to not only make superbly produced music but have the talent to transfer and showcase this as a live band with equal success. That's not always the case with artists I've seen. Great in the studio, rubbish live. Not these, oh no. I can vouch for this first hand.

The Freestlyers ARE breaks as far as I'm concerned. If it wasn't for them I'd probably never bothered looking more into it as a genre. Their music is a great window for any newbie wishing to dip a toe in to the "Lake of Breaks" without question. Then there's so much more for you to discover on your new quest.

The Freestylers UK tour for their controversially named album "Raw as F**k" saw them appearing at Trisect. Oh yeah, I played and they signed my album.........which made it even better!
