Damian S

Next up is a very talented Dj with over ten years experience. You'll only hear the best DJs here on djmandrick.com and Damo is no exception.

I met Damo through an internet forum and was simply blown away by his scratching and mixing techniques. Consistently slick. This is breaks and the like at its finest. Damo, me old fruit, the spot light is yours.......

Damian S , Cambridge, UK.

Damian used to be into banging techno and hardcore, but these days his collection mostly contains deep house, tech house, progressive, breaks and a few pieces of techno from the lighter end. Damian's forte is the old scratching. He is not as technically proficient as the modern day turntablists, but his old school style and funky cuts definitely hit the spot.

He started trying to DJ in 1989 after hearing the local lads belting "Rave" tapes from their car stereos. He spent nearly 2 years practicing using a tape deck, a record deck with small amount of pitch control, with both inputs on the amp selected at once, i.e. no mixer. Sounds real messy doesn't it? But after 2 years he got it down to a fine art.

Damian played his first live set back in 1993 for Proper Stuff in some speedway place near Kings Lynn. The local hardcore DJs where taken aback when they heard his banging techno warm up set. The mixing was pretty rubbish (nerves) and so were many of the tunes, gutted! Damian became a regular at the Grey Hound in Cambridge playing for Out Of The Trap, a little Thursday night do offering up and coming DJs a chance to get some experience. In hindsight some fantastic nights started down there.

He started playing for Kite High in 1994 and became a regular on the Kite High boat parties on the river Thames, and other events mainly at Hollywood's in Ipswich. In around 1995-1996 Damian became a regular for Section 47 who put on parties at Granchester Meadows, or anywhere a PA system could be surrounded by several hundred people. Between 2000 and 2004 it went rather quiet, but having had 2 children in this period, money was tight and finding the time to pursue the music side was difficult. There were a handful of events. Lounge, on new years eve 2001/2002 at the Pit Club, Cambridge was a great night with hopefully some more to come (JOHN?).

Since the start of 2004 Damian started to work a little harder at it again, collecting more accessible music house music and breaks, and sending out demo CD's to various people. In 2005 Damian started performing a weekly slot on DJ Source Radio, which later moved to transmission FM in 2006. His regular slots were noticed by a couple of promoters. In 2006 Damian started playing for "Soul Funk" in Loughborough, and "Twisted Most Definitely?" in London, playing along side a few high profile breaks DJs (BLIM, Kid Blue, and Chris Carter). For 2007 TMD is going to take off, with monthly events in London as well as other events across the country.
